Black Canyon Surgical Center

MONTROSE, CO – If you recently experienced expert surgical care in Montrose at the Black Canyon Surgical Center, you’re not alone. Newsweek has named the Black Canyon Surgical Center of Montrose, Colorado among the best in the country.

In an analysis of over 5,000 ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs), Newsweek and its partner Statista placed Black Canyon Surgical Center on its list of America’s Best Ambulatory Surgery Centers 2023, and is one of only a select few receiving this recognition in the state of Colorado

“We put our attention and energy into quality patient care along with developing the best team and surgical environment possible,” said Dan Soderlind, CEO of Black Canyon Surgical Center. “To be recognized by a national organization against our peers is an honor.  Our patients and surgeons place a lot of trust in us and what we do.  I am proud Montrose has access to a team like we have at the Black Canyon Surgical Center.”

Jeff Mengenhausen, CEO at Montrose Regional Health (MRH) added, “as partners with the Black Canyon Surgical Center, we are thrilled with its success.  MRH has a history of partnering with providers in the community to excel and provide our communities with excellent care. This is another example of how we have partnered with independent providers to live out our motto and “care for you like family.”

The award is based on quality of care, performance data and peer recommendations, relative to in-state competition. To gather data, the analysis included surveys from ASC personnel across the nation – experts in the field – and data from the Ambulatory Surgical Center Quality Reporting (ASCQR) Program by the US Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Survey participants rated ASCs from 1-10 in four quality dimensions: Management in times of COVID-19 crisis, Management of waiting time, Quality of surgical care and Quality of follow-up care.

Thirteen ASCs were awarded in the State of Colorado, most of them located in the Denver area. According to the Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment, there are 136 ASCs in Colorado.

Black Canyon Surgical Center is a multi-specialty ambulatory surgical center in Montrose, providing high quality multi-specialty care to a five-county region. More information about the Black Canyon Surgical Center can be found at BlackCanyonSurgicalCenter.com.
